Many of my online acquaintances and a few of my online friends are giving NaNoWriMo a shot this month.
Na Noo Na Noo? No, Mork from Ork did not just take over my brain. For those who don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it annually inspires over 100,000 writers to put distractions aside, put their nose to the grindstone and write 50,000 words by month’s end. Editing comes later. It’s all about getting the ideas, characters, basic story on the page and stop making excuses. They even have a NaNoWriMo for young writers that my son is considering taking on, giving them a word count based on age and placement in school. It’s quite inspiring.
Not so inspiring that I think I could do it, mind, but I admire those who try and of course, those who succeed.
But, for those of us without novel aspirations, or novel aspirations that are further into the future than oh, say…today…they have NaBloPoMo. In English, that’s National Blog Posting Month. For one month, those of us participating, commit to writing a blog entry every day for the entire month. November is when the novel writers get cracking, so in solidarity and in abject guilt because of amazing blog posts like this one, I’m choosing November as well.
And also, because with a beautiful evening in Dublin at State Finals last night, this part of my life was put to bed until fall 2010.

Marching season is over, our schedules are more of our own and my son and I thought we could crack our knuckles and get serious over a hobby that makes us both very happy. Writing. This month, I hope to share pictures, silly family tales, a few Letters to Lisa that I’ve neglected and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get myself into a disciplined posting routine. I hope you’ll come along the journey with me.
And if you have a blog, sign up and join me!

Good luck! If you need a kick in the pants let me know.

Noone knows any better than your Mom you can do anything well when you put your mind to it. Looking forward to each one.
