"I'll commune with her as they bake." I enjoyed this post so much because I still think of my dear friend Dorothy (who died nearly 12 years ago) every day and especially when I cook certain things. At other times in the kitchen I think of my mother, sister, mother-in-law, aunts and grandmothers; and I have always put it just as you did--I "commune" with them. That's what my food is all about.

Possibly. Unfortunately, since they sit in the fridge, we tend to forget about them and they don't get eaten. That, and my husband is a weirdo and doesn't like custardy/pudding-y things, so he doesn't help.

I'm from Utica NY and LOVE pusties. Everytime I go back there, I gorge myself on them. Can't find them in San Diego! I was watching Cake Boss last night (10/30/10) and they mentioned Pasticiotti; didn't know that's what they're called. I looked it up and lo and behold there's your website. Hope you're able to duplicate them.

Now that I know the name of them, maybe some of the Italian pastry shops here can make them. Sure hope so.
