Just landed on your blog and I really like your chili analogy. I teach, really moderate, a bible class at the rehabilitation center my husband and I oversee. Last night’s class was definitely a chili dump. It was about to get a bit spicy but we were able to cool things off. Thing is, they’re memorable. Thanks for your post. I found the same thing re: Bin Laden’s death from several of my FB friends.

Yeah, and shoot – why does there have to be the “other side?” Can’t we just communicate, interject, play, discuss, disagree and dissect without all of the hatred? Without all of the name calling? Without all of the side taking?

Whatever happened to adults acting like adults?

Wow! I see you put your day off to good use. How well I remember the chili dump. And you’re correct, that was the best chili we had ever eaten.
I loved the analogy; you hit the nail on the head. Problem is, some folks never see themselves as a part of the “other side.”

The conspiracy theories – he’s not really dead b/c we haven’t seen anything, those casting judgment on others who are choosing to celebrate their relief at his death, and of course those who are bad mouthing Obama b/c he’s supposedly taking all of the credit. What’s really baffling me (not firing me up, btw…just decided to speak up once a good analogy hit me last night) is that much of this is coming from people I always thought were more middle ground, open minded, reasonable…not the fringes. People who would happily add amazing awesomeness to the chili dump b/c they normally play well with others.

Hmmmmm. You know I totally agree with you, but now I’m curious as to which comments got you so fired up. Maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Maybe I’ve already withdrawn from the chili dump because I didn’t want to listen to everyone. Now WE have to have dinner
